NORTH YORKSHIRE COUNTY COUNCIL

STATEMENT OF CHAIRMAN OF THE TRANSPORT, ECONOMY AND ENVIRONMENT OVERVIEW AND SCRUTINY COMMITTEE

For those members who are not familiar with the work of the Transport Economy and Environment Overview and Scrutiny Committee, it has a remit that includes:

·         Transport and communications infrastructure of all kinds, however owned or provided, and how the needs of the community are met in these areas

·         Supporting business, helping people develop their skills, including lifelong learning

·         Sustainable development, climate change strategy, countryside management, waste management, environmental conservation and enhancement, flooding and cultural issues.

Since the statement of the previous Chairman at the last County Council meeting, a Mid-Cycle Briefing was held on 8 June 2022. The Briefing was a chance for the Vice-Chair, Group Spokespersons and myself to consider the reports scheduled to come forward to future committee meetings.

The next meeting of the full committee will be held on 11 July 2022.  The following items are on the agenda:

·         Major schemes development in the County

·         Annual Report on the progress and performance of NY Highways

·         North Yorkshire Local Flood Risk Management Strategy

·         Rail Update

·         Update on Single Use Plastics

It is already clear from the Mid-Cycle Briefing that the new membership will provide a range of views and perspectives to help question, debate and provide challenge in the areas that fall under the remit of the Committee, in particular on climate change and transport infrastructure.
